Conditions / Fatty liver

Your liver may be telling a bigger story.

You were told you have fatty liver.

Maybe it appeared unexpectedly on an ultrasound. Maybe your liver enzymes are elevated. Maybe you have weight gain, diabetes, high triglycerides or cholesterol along with it.

And now you are wondering: "What should I eat?" "Can fatty liver improve?" "Do I need to stop everything I enjoy?"

At LIFETUNES, we don't look at fatty liver as an isolated organ problem. We look at the health pattern behind it: your metabolism, nutrition, body composition, blood sugar regulation, movement, sleep, stress, medications, alcohol exposure and other relevant medical factors.

Because two people can have fatty liver for very different reasons.

Understand the pattern. Restore the foundation. Support your liver.

Fatty liver is often a visible sign of a metabolic pattern, not an isolated liver problem.

02 Recognition

Does this sound like you?

You may have been told:

  • “Your ultrasound shows fatty liver.”
  • “Your liver enzymes are high.”
  • “Lose some weight.”
  • “Avoid oily food.”
  • “Come back after a few months.”

But you may still be asking: why did this happen?

You may also be experiencing: increasing waist circumference, weight gain or difficulty losing weight, persistent fatigue, sugar or carbohydrate cravings, high triglycerides or cholesterol, elevated blood sugar, insulin resistance, digestive discomfort, a sedentary lifestyle, poor sleep. Or simply a liver report that you don't fully understand.

And perhaps the biggest question is: "What can I actually do to improve my liver health?"

If this sounds familiar, you may need more than a generic "liver diet." You may need to understand the metabolic pattern behind your liver health.

03 Belief expansion

Fatty liver is more than a liver problem.

Your liver plays a central role in:

  • Energy metabolism
  • Fat and cholesterol handling
  • Glucose regulation
  • Nutrient processing
  • Bile production
  • Hormone and medication metabolism
  • Detoxification and waste processing

When excess fat accumulates in the liver, it can be associated with broader metabolic dysfunction. But the reason it happens is not identical in everyone.

Your pattern may involve combinations of: insulin resistance, excess visceral fat, nutrition and dietary pattern, low physical activity, weight gain, high triglycerides, blood sugar dysregulation, sleep disruption, alcohol exposure, medications or other medical conditions, and genetic and individual factors.

So instead of asking only: "How do I remove fat from my liver?" We ask:

What is driving the pattern, and what does my body need to change?

04 Simple mechanism

So, why does fat accumulate in the liver?

The liver is constantly involved in managing energy and nutrients.

When energy intake, insulin regulation, fat metabolism and energy expenditure become imbalanced, the liver may begin storing more fat.

One common pathway involves insulin resistance. When the body becomes less responsive to insulin, the liver and other tissues may handle glucose and fat differently. Increased fat delivery to the liver and increased production of certain fats can contribute to hepatic fat accumulation.

But this is only one part of the picture. Fatty liver can also be influenced by:

  • Excess body fat, particularly visceral fat
  • Dietary patterns and excess energy intake
  • Physical inactivity
  • Type 2 diabetes or prediabetes
  • High triglycerides
  • Alcohol
  • Certain medications
  • Genetic susceptibility
  • Other medical conditions

The ultrasound may show the result. Your health pattern helps us explore the context.

That is where personalised care begins.

06 Same diagnosis. Different patterns.

One ultrasound. Very different stories.

Person A

Metabolic pattern

  • Increased waist circumference
  • Insulin resistance
  • High triglycerides
  • Low physical activity

Priority: metabolic and lifestyle foundations.

Person B

Nutrition + lifestyle pattern

  • Irregular meals

Your plan should begin with your health pattern, not someone else's liver diet.

Same diagnosis. Different priorities.

07 The LIFETUNES method

From understanding to action.

  1. 01

    Assess

Understand your symptoms, history, lifestyle, body composition, laboratory data and relevant medical factors. We don't start with assumptions.

  2. 02

    Map

    Connect the information.

Identify the relationships between liver health, metabolism, nutrition, movement, sleep and other relevant factors. We create your Health Pattern Map.

  3. 03

    Reset

Reduce the lifestyle and nutritional factors that may be contributing to metabolic stress. Build simple, realistic foundations. Less confusion. More structure.

  4. 04

    Restore

Strengthen nutrition, movement, sleep, metabolic health and sustainable daily habits. Where appropriate, nutritional support may be personalised according to your needs. The goal is not a temporary "detox." It is to build a healthier internal environment.

  5. 05

    Sustain

Turn the changes into a lifestyle you can continue. Track meaningful progress. Refine the plan.

Because liver health is not a 7-day challenge.

08 The 90-day journey

90 days to build a stronger foundation.

Days 01 to 30

Reset

  • Understand your pattern
  • Simplify your nutrition
  • Improve meal structure
  • Increase daily movement
  • Begin addressing the lifestyle factors that may be contributing to metabolic stress

Days 31 to 60

Restore

  • Strengthen metabolic habits
  • Improve food quality and nutritional adequacy
  • Build consistency with movement and exercise
  • Work on sleep and recovery
  • Review measurable changes

Days 61 to 90

Transform

  • Make healthy choices more automatic
  • Refine your nutrition and lifestyle strategy
  • Review your progress
  • Build a sustainable plan for the months ahead

It is the point where you should understand your body better, and have a clearer system for continuing forward.

90 days = foundation. Not a promise of a specific scan result or a guaranteed outcome.

Day 90 is not the finish line.

09 Progress beyond the ultrasound

Your liver is not the only thing we track.

A meaningful transformation may involve multiple dimensions.

01

Liver

  • Liver enzymes
  • Imaging where clinically appropriate
  • Symptoms

02

Metabolic

  • Blood glucose
  • HbA1c
  • Triglycerides
  • Lipid profile
  • Other relevant markers

03

Body

  • Weight
  • Waist circumference
  • Body composition

04

Lifestyle

  • Movement
  • Sleep
  • Meal consistency
  • Food quality

05

Daily life

  • Energy
  • Digestion
  • Confidence
  • Ability to maintain healthy routines

We don't want you to become obsessed with one report.

We want you to understand the direction of your health.

10 Look beyond the liver

Your liver may be part of a bigger metabolic story.

Fatty liver can occur alongside other metabolic health concerns, including:

  • Insulin resistance
  • Prediabetes
  • Type 2 diabetes
  • Increased waist circumference
  • High triglycerides
  • High cholesterol
  • High blood pressure
  • Obesity
  • Cardiometabolic risk factors

This does not mean everyone with fatty liver will develop these conditions. It means your liver health can be an opportunity to look at the bigger metabolic picture.

At LIFETUNES, we ask: "What else does this pattern tell us about your health?"

Because improving one part of the system can be an opportunity to strengthen the whole foundation.

11 Who is this for?

This program may be relevant if you:

  • Have been told you have fatty liver
  • Have abnormal liver enzymes that need lifestyle support alongside medical evaluation
  • Have fatty liver with weight or waist gain
  • Have insulin resistance, prediabetes or type 2 diabetes
  • Have high triglycerides or cholesterol
  • Want a structured nutrition and lifestyle approach
  • Have tried generic "liver diets" without knowing what applies to you
  • Want practitioner-guided support rather than another short-term diet
  • Want to understand the connection between liver and metabolic health
  • Are ready to build sustainable habits

Your goal may be: better metabolic health. Healthier body composition. Better nutrition. Improved daily habits. Better understanding of your reports. Long-term liver health.

The starting point is your pattern.

12 When medical care comes first

Not every liver problem is a lifestyle problem.

Lifestyle and nutrition can play an important supportive role, but some liver conditions require medical evaluation and treatment.

Medical assessment is especially important when there is:

  • Significant or rapidly worsening liver enzyme elevation
  • Jaundice
  • Persistent abdominal pain
  • Unexplained weight loss
  • Significant alcohol-related liver concerns
  • Known viral hepatitis
  • Suspected advanced liver disease or fibrosis
  • Significant medication-related liver injury
  • Cirrhosis or other established liver disease
  • Severe or rapidly changing metabolic abnormalities

Where appropriate, your care may need coordination with a physician, gastroenterologist/hepatologist, endocrinologist or other specialist.

Your LIFETUNES program complements medical care. It does not replace necessary diagnosis, medication or specialist treatment.

Never stop or change prescribed medication without discussing it with the prescribing clinician.

Your liver is part of your story.

Let's help you understand the whole story.

15 Questions

Frequently asked questions

Can fatty liver improve?

In many people, lifestyle and metabolic interventions can improve liver fat and related metabolic health. The appropriate approach depends on the underlying cause, severity and individual medical context.

Do I need to completely stop eating fat?

Not necessarily.

The type and overall amount of dietary fat, total dietary pattern, energy balance and individual metabolic context all matter. Your plan should not simply be based on the word "fatty."

Is sugar the only cause of fatty liver?

No.

Fatty liver can involve multiple interacting factors including metabolic health, body composition, dietary pattern, physical activity, alcohol, medications, genetics and other medical factors.

Can I have fatty liver if I am not overweight?

Yes.

Fatty liver can occur in people who are not classified as overweight. Body weight alone does not fully describe metabolic or liver health.

Can exercise help?

Regular physical activity can support metabolic health and can be beneficial for liver health, even when large amounts of weight loss do not occur.

The type and intensity of activity should be appropriate for the individual.

Do I need supplements for fatty liver?

Not automatically.

Supplements should not replace nutrition, movement, sleep or appropriate medical treatment. Where nutritional support is appropriate, it should be personalised rather than based on a generic "liver detox" list.

Can fatty liver be caused by alcohol?

Yes.

Alcohol-related liver disease is different from metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease, although individual cases can have overlapping factors. Alcohol exposure should therefore be assessed as part of the health history.

What if I have diabetes or high cholesterol too?

That is exactly why looking at the bigger metabolic picture matters.

Your nutrition and lifestyle plan can be designed to consider the interaction between liver health, glucose regulation, lipids, body composition and other relevant factors.

Will my ultrasound become normal in 90 days?

There is no guaranteed timeline.

Changes depend on the severity of liver fat, underlying causes, metabolic health, adherence, genetics and other individual factors. The 90-day program is designed to establish measurable and sustainable foundations, not promise a specific scan result.

Do I need to stop my liver or diabetes medication?

Never stop or change prescribed medication without discussing it with your treating clinician.

Lifestyle improvement may change medical requirements for some people over time, but medication decisions require appropriate clinical monitoring.

Is LIFETUNES a replacement for my hepatologist or physician?

No.

LIFETUNES provides personalised nutrition, lifestyle and functional health support. Medical diagnosis, treatment of liver disease, medication management and specialist care remain important when clinically indicated.

Your liver is telling you something.

Assess your health pattern.

The question is not simply: "How do I get rid of fatty liver?" The better question may be: "What is my body trying to tell me, and what can I change?"

At LIFETUNES, we help you move from report to understanding, understanding to action, and action to sustainable change.

Understand your liver. Understand your metabolism. Understand your lifestyle. Then build a plan around you.
