Conditions / High cholesterol

Your cholesterol report is more than a number.

A lipid report gives you measurements. Your health story gives them meaning.

Perhaps your latest report showed: high LDL, high triglycerides, low HDL. And now you are wondering: "What should I actually do?"

Eat less fat? Stop eating eggs? Exercise more? Take medication? Change everything?

At LIFETUNES, we look beyond a single cholesterol value. We consider your overall cardiovascular and metabolic health, including nutrition, body composition, blood pressure, glucose regulation, physical activity, sleep, lifestyle and relevant clinical factors.

Because managing cholesterol is not just about chasing a number.

Understand my health pattern

Doctor-guided • Personalised • Science + Nature

A lipid report is a snapshot. Cardiometabolic health is the bigger picture.

02 Recognition

Does this sound like you?

You received your lipid report. Then came the questions.

  • “Is my cholesterol dangerously high?”
  • “What foods should I stop eating?”
  • “Can I still eat eggs?”
  • “Do I need medication?”
  • “Why is my cholesterol high when I don't eat much oily food?”
  • “My weight is normal, so why is my cholesterol abnormal?”
  • “I've changed my diet, but my numbers haven't changed enough.”

Or perhaps you have been managing high cholesterol for years without ever understanding the bigger picture.

If this sounds familiar, you may need more than a list of foods to avoid. You may need to understand what your lipid profile is telling you about your overall health.

03 Belief expansion

Cholesterol is not the whole story.

Cholesterol is essential to the body. It is involved in cell membranes, hormone production and other biological functions.

The concern is not simply that cholesterol exists. The important question is how your lipid profile fits into your overall cardiovascular risk. Your lipid pattern can be influenced by:

01

Genetics

Some people inherit conditions that cause very high cholesterol and require medical treatment.

02

Nutrition

Overall dietary pattern, energy balance, fibre intake and types of dietary fat can influence lipid levels.

03

Metabolic health

Insulin resistance, excess visceral fat and glucose dysregulation may occur alongside an unfavourable lipid pattern.

04

Body composition

Excess visceral and body fat can be associated with metabolic changes that affect triglycerides and other cardiovascular risk factors.

05

Movement

Regular physical activity contributes to cardiovascular and metabolic health.

06

Sleep & stress

Sleep and chronic stress can influence behaviour, metabolic health and cardiovascular risk.

07

Medical factors

Thyroid disorders, kidney or liver conditions and certain medications can influence lipid levels.

So the question isn't simply: "How do I lower my cholesterol?" It is also:

What does my lipid pattern mean in the context of my health?

04 Simple mechanism

So, what is happening inside?

Your body makes cholesterol naturally, and cholesterol also comes from your diet.

Because cholesterol does not dissolve in water, it travels through the bloodstream in particles called lipoproteins. One of the most important is LDL, which carries cholesterol from the liver to tissues. Another is HDL, which participates in transporting cholesterol back toward the liver. Triglycerides are another type of blood lipid involved in energy storage and metabolism.

When certain lipid levels are persistently elevated, particularly LDL cholesterol, this can contribute to the development of atherosclerosis and increase cardiovascular risk.

But the story does not stop at the lipid panel. Your cardiovascular risk is influenced by multiple factors:

  • Blood pressure
  • Glucose regulation
  • Smoking
  • Body composition
  • Physical activity
  • Age
  • Family history
  • Kidney health
  • Lipid levels
  • Other medical factors

The lipid report is the measurement. The bigger health pattern is the context.

05 Your health pattern map

Your cholesterol has a pattern.

A lipid profile is a snapshot. We want to understand what surrounds that snapshot.

01

Lipid health

  • LDL cholesterol
  • HDL cholesterol
  • Triglycerides
  • Non-HDL cholesterol
  • Other relevant lipid markers

02

Metabolic health

  • Glucose regulation
  • Insulin resistance where relevant
  • Visceral fat
  • Metabolic markers

03

Nutrition

  • Dietary pattern
  • Fibre intake
  • Types of dietary fat
  • Protein quality
  • Ultra-processed foods
  • Meal structure

04

Cardiovascular health

  • Blood pressure
  • Physical activity
  • Smoking status
  • Family history
  • Overall cardiovascular risk

05

Body composition

  • Body fat
  • Waist circumference
  • Visceral fat
  • Muscle mass

06

Lifestyle

  • Sleep
  • Stress
  • Movement
  • Alcohol where relevant

07

Medical factors

  • Thyroid health
  • Kidney health
  • Liver health
  • Medications
  • Genetic lipid disorders

The pieces connect. Understanding those connections helps determine which factors deserve attention first.

We don't treat a cholesterol number in isolation.

06 Personalisation

Same cholesterol report. Different health stories.

Two people can have a similar LDL level. But the appropriate approach may be very different.

Person 01

Metabolic pattern

  • High triglycerides
  • Abdominal obesity
  • Insulin resistance
  • Fatty liver

Metabolic health + nutrition + movement + body composition, alongside appropriate medical care.

Person 02

Lifestyle pattern

  • Poor dietary pattern
  • Low fibre intake
  • Sedentary lifestyle
  • Irregular sleep

Nutrition quality + movement + sustainable lifestyle changes.

Person 03

Inherited / medical pattern

  • Very high LDL
  • Strong family history of premature cardiovascular disease
  • Possible familial hypercholesterolemia

Medical assessment and appropriate lipid-lowering treatment, with lifestyle support where useful.

The number may look similar. The health story may not be.

That's why LIFETUNES begins with assessment rather than assumptions.

07 The LIFETUNES method

The LIFETUNES method

A personalised approach to nutrition, lifestyle and cardiometabolic health, alongside appropriate medical care.

  1. 01

    Assess

    Understand before you change.

We review your lipid profile, health history, nutrition, activity, body composition, lifestyle and relevant clinical information.

  2. 02

90 days is a foundation, not a finish line.

09 Progress beyond LDL

Progress is more than LDL.

LDL is an important cardiovascular risk marker. But it is not the only thing worth paying attention to.

Depending on your health profile, progress may include:

01

Lipid health

  • LDL cholesterol
  • Triglycerides
  • HDL cholesterol
  • Non-HDL cholesterol
  • Other clinically relevant markers

02

Cardiovascular health

  • Blood pressure
  • Physical activity
  • Smoking cessation where relevant
  • Overall risk-factor management

03

Metabolic health

  • Glucose regulation
  • Waist circumference
  • Body composition
  • Metabolic markers

04

Daily habits

  • Fibre intake
  • Food quality
  • Meal consistency
  • Physical activity

05

Quality of life

  • Energy
  • Fitness
  • Confidence with food
  • Ability to sustain healthier routines

The goal isn't simply a better report. It is a healthier cardiovascular and metabolic foundation.

10 Beyond cholesterol

High cholesterol rarely exists in isolation.

An unfavourable lipid profile may occur alongside other cardiometabolic concerns. These can include:

  • High blood pressure
  • Insulin resistance
  • Type 2 diabetes
  • Excess visceral fat
  • Fatty liver
  • Low physical fitness
  • Sleep problems

These conditions can share some contributing factors, while also having their own causes and treatments. That's why we look beyond the lipid panel.

The objective is not simply to change one laboratory value. It is to improve the health pattern surrounding it.

11 Who is this for?

Is LIFETUNES right for you?

This approach may be suitable if:

  • You have an unfavourable lipid profile and want structured lifestyle support.
  • You want to understand how nutrition and lifestyle relate to your cardiovascular health.
  • You have high cholesterol alongside weight, glucose, fatty liver or other metabolic concerns.
  • You want practical nutrition guidance rather than a generic "avoid oily food" list.
  • You are ready to work consistently on nutrition, movement and lifestyle.
  • You want practitioner guidance alongside appropriate medical care.

You don't need to change everything overnight. We identify what matters most, then build from there.

12 When medical care comes first

Some cholesterol patterns need medical attention.

Lifestyle can be an important part of cardiovascular risk reduction. But lifestyle intervention should not delay appropriate medical evaluation or treatment.

Medical assessment is especially important when there is:

  • Very high LDL cholesterol
  • A strong family history of premature cardiovascular disease
  • Suspected familial hypercholesterolemia
  • Established heart or vascular disease
  • Previous heart attack or stroke
  • Significant diabetes or kidney disease
  • Other major cardiovascular risk factors

Some people benefit substantially from lipid-lowering medication. Medication decisions belong with your treating clinician.

Do not stop, reduce or replace prescribed cholesterol medication because of changes you make to your diet or lifestyle.

Responsible prevention means knowing when lifestyle and medical treatment need to work together.

15 Questions

Frequently asked questions

Is all cholesterol bad?

No.

Cholesterol is essential for normal body function. The concern is an unfavourable lipid pattern and, particularly, elevated LDL cholesterol in the context of cardiovascular risk.

Do I need to stop eating eggs?

There is no universal answer.

The effect of dietary cholesterol varies between individuals, and overall dietary pattern matters. Your nutrition plan should consider your complete lipid profile, health status and dietary pattern rather than focusing on one food alone.

Do I have to stop eating all fats?

No.

The type and overall amount of dietary fat matter more than simply treating all fats as the same. A personalised nutrition strategy can help determine what fits your health profile.

Can diet lower cholesterol?

Dietary changes can improve lipid levels in many people, although the degree of response varies.

Genetics, metabolic health, medications and other factors can also have substantial effects.

Will I need cholesterol medication?

That depends on your individual cardiovascular risk and lipid profile.

Some people benefit significantly from medication, and lifestyle changes should complement rather than replace indicated medical treatment.

Can I stop my statin if my cholesterol improves?

No.

Do not stop or reduce prescribed medication without discussing it with your treating clinician. If your cardiovascular risk profile changes, your clinician can determine whether treatment should be adjusted.

What if my weight is normal but my cholesterol is high?

Normal body weight does not automatically mean low cardiovascular risk.

Genetics, diet, physical activity, thyroid health, medications and other factors can influence lipid levels.

What if I have diabetes or fatty liver too?

These conditions can occur together as part of broader metabolic dysfunction.

Your health assessment can consider the connections between them while each condition receives appropriate clinical attention.

How quickly can cholesterol improve?

Lipid levels can respond to lifestyle changes over weeks to months, but the degree and speed of change vary considerably.

Your clinician can determine when repeat testing is appropriate.

Is LIFETUNES a replacement for my cardiologist or physician?

No.

LIFETUNES nutritional and lifestyle support is intended to complement appropriate medical care. Medication decisions, cardiovascular disease management and other medical treatments remain with the appropriate healthcare professional.

Your cholesterol report tells part of the story.

Let's understand the bigger picture.

You don't need to live in fear of every lipid report.

You need to understand what your numbers mean, what factors may be influencing them, and what changes are appropriate for your health.
